If that happens and you cant live with it just reinstall RB2. Only a low end machine with a 4 meg V1 will get that little pause ( the UOP isnt the only reason to blame, dynamix but a high overhead on the AI when a plane spawns as well. ). I think the UOP patch is worth it for the reason that Voss is in his correct plane scheme and the Jasta's and RFC squads have been gone over, makes the RB2 sim world a more colourful and enlightening place. Everty ace has his particular aircraft assigned now even if it is only a flight letter on the upper wing and fus. The patch gets updated pretty fast so keep an eye out for any developments too if you like it. There is always some new addition being done. David wrote: Thanks for the bad news on RB2 for Mac guys ... Oh the " dark side " beckons !!!" IMPO I dont know why game companies dont develop on the linux system , it is free and they could install it and make it transparent to the user ( ie user could still believe they were on the Win system yet being running in Linux ). Linux supports the OpenGL interface so 3D enhanced games can be done with ease and Linux has the added advantage, it is faster than Win and isnt anywhere near as bloated or crappy. Also a developer can write optimised drivers for differant hardware to match the game. So far only ID have had the guts ot do a LInux port. Hopefully the big sim developers will too one day. There is a Linux (freeware) flight sim being developed at : http://www.menet.umn.edu/~curt/fgfs/ so maybe there is hope for the future. cam footer signature thingy name: Cameron Riley AFC site at : http://members.xoom.com/PointCook/index.htm RB2 artattack : http://members.xoom.com/artattack/index.htm anything under this line is prontomail advertising and should be ignored -------->>>> buy junk bonds Visit my homepage at http://www.prontomail.com/Prontomail/users/cameron ______________________________________________________________ Get Your Free E-mail and Homepage at http://www.prontomail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Dec 1998 14:04:50 +-100 From: Tomasz Gronczewski To: "'wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu'" Subject: ODP: Flight Sim(RB2), UnOfficialPatch3.0 released Message-ID: <01BE2833.E3752160@loopback> ------ =_NextPart_000_01BE2833.E3752160 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Sim Fans, you have to become part of the intel/win oligarchy to enjoy Red Baron 2, = that means a PII 350 with a 12 Meg 3dfx V2 card as minimum. At least there are some great new kits available..... Oh, on my list I said 4 kits completed. Make that 5 - I did finally finish my first scratch built armoured car in 1/64 scale.....it was a learning experience. Came out looking good, but it ended up 1/64 scale in height and length and about 1/85 scale in width (Argh!). Well, it was mainly a learning project in scratch building so I'm happy and encouraged. I'm going to do it again, but instead of winging it I'll draw up some plans on CAD to go from. I'm thinking of making the next one in parts I can cast so I can do multiples of it (for wargaming). I wonder if anyone would be interested in building 1/64 scale WWI armoured cars if I did that? I'm talking shipping cost here. I'd cast most of the big parts in allumilite and the small stuff in lead, which I have a lot of experience with. I've already molded up the 1/64 scale vickers and lewis guns. They came out well..... > operative word "finished". My "in progress" drawer looks like Tony Fokker's > main shop floor at quitting time on Friday afternoon. I finished two Bittner > scale Emhar Mark IV's, one each male and female, and another 1/76 Airfix Mark > I. But, there are still 17 more building days till new years.... The biggest mistake I made was moving my in-progress kits from the workbench top to a drawer - in-progress list went from 2 to 6 immediately and now peaks at 8 or 9 sometimes! -Al =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | You fell victim to one of the 'classic' blunders! I should explain that about 5 years ago I decided to entirely drop 1/72 for WW1 subjects after years of building WW1 *only* in 1/72. Since then Pegasus, and more recently Toko and now Eduard/Flasback have me buying models I'd expected to be able to ignore. Dammit, the Voisin has such *character*, and even OoB the new kit will be an absolute eyecatcher. I may need another.... to build in my dotage. (No smartarse comments everyone ;-) I'll pose a question to the list: Many of us use the "nu" (next up) addendum on our posts. It seems to me that mine changes by the day, sometimes frequently *same* day. I also see other list members setting out to build models never mentioned in *their* "next up"s. So do any of you actually stick to the plan of the moment, or should we change it to "tf" (todays fantasy)? ;-) Shane nu... Maybe the Voisin. And I *never* finished any but started one every month. About 10 years ago when I escaped the Army, I ruthlessly despatched *every* part built but one to land fill - some 40 kits, all off topic, and vowed not to start another until i finished the one remaining PB. It worked in two ways. I *did* finish the PB - an off topic model - and I realised I wasn't finishing models because I was buying the latest kits like all the rest of the modelling world, rather than subjects *I* wanted to build. I went back mostly to WW1, where I still finish perilously few, but * *do* finish. Shane ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 08:35:09 +1000 From: Shane Weier To: "'wwi'" Subject: How many: The unscientific analysis Message-ID: GDay all, I thought I'd better collate the results of the last week of confessions and let the list members know just where they stand . Because there were many "about.." or "or more" entries, and a couple of members wouldn't admit to the size of their cache, perhaps out of fear ;-), I have made a few assumptions and interpolations - this is where it gets unscientific ! Average Completions this year = 3.9 Average Completed WW1 = 14.0 Average Unbuilt WW1 = 86.4 There are some simple conclusions to be drawn. If none of us ever buy another model (yeah, right!) we need to live an average of 22.4 more years to finish our hoards. Of course the figures are skewed by some parties. Dennis scared the life out of me when he admitted 81 completed models and 10 per year, but with 500 in his pile he's going to be busy for over 50 years (especially if he buys that Voisin !) Dennis wins the "List Larder of the Year" award for most kits in stock, but Matt wins the "Optimist of the Year" award given that at his current rate the kits in his stock will last him another 160 years. Of course Gerry McOsker might dispute this because he won't admit how many kits he has, and at a rate of, um, nothing, *whatever* will take some time to complete. There *were* a couple of others who admitted to zero completions, but one stood out for guts ! Cameron Rile has no WW1 models built or unbuilt, so I suppose he's "List Critic" - he doesn't *do* it, just talks about it ! (And why not - we are after all a very inteesting bunch !) On a personal note, I'm happy to see that more than 1/4 of the list members finished less than I, and fully half finished no more - Hah ! And my embarrasment regarding the size of my stash is somewhat reduced by the admissions of Dennis, Matt and Sandy. In conclusion I must them wish you all good health - or we'll *never* get finished Shane ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Dec 1998 17:33:05 -0500 From: "Steven M. Mmmmm > Like Shane mentioned in another post, I also had too many partially built projects. When I made a concerted effort to finish them, I found that I forgot neat details I had intended to build in. I had a lot of sloppy models to show for my trouble. I self imposed a rule of "one at a time" on the bench. The results have been worth the exercise of self discipline. Now my projects end up as models I enjoy having on the shelf. I permit myself to remove parts from sprue and dress them with file & sandpaper on kits which are not the current project, but I refrain from actually starting construction. The tendency to stick to the next up is directly proportional to the length of time the current project occupies the bench. I must admit though, with all the nice new kits on the market, the urge to drop everything and dive into a Flashback Voisin or an Eduard Albatros D.III is tempting. However, I seem to run out of steam when I do that and the project suffers. I suppose the one at a time on the bench rule is what works best for me. sp nb: Curtiss N-9H in 1:48 nu: Morane Saulnier 1:72 (Barry, I'll be ordering a set of that landing gear after the Holidays) ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 1338 **********************
