That was before Aeroclub and their after market products. Now there are resin and photoetched parts, decals, and lo and behold, reference material that is available. For an excellent starter kit in vac get the WINGS 72 Hansa Brandenberg W-12, long or short fuselage. It has 39 metal parts, pre cut decals and it falls together. I built mine in 4 days. And one that actually puts his kits together. Excellent. You will like the Phoneix Caudron G.4. I have the G.3 completed by Roseplanes and it is beautiful. I have been eyeing the G.4 and maybe this year it will enter the soon to be built area. I think I will try the SPAD A-2 after I complete my Otto Doppeldecker. The Llya-Muromets is a big chuck of plastic and I understand the latest release has been upgraded a bit. It finishs up into a big, impressive model but be prepared to spend about 7 hours in the rigging. I do come across vacuforms and for reasonable prices. As far as I know I am the only active WW1 builder in Fresno and you can hardly give away a vac in this town. Let me know what you are looking for and I will keep a look out for it. Keep us up on what you are building. We may even inspire someone to actually put glue on their model. Message-ID: <199812121749.LAA22585@mail.primary.net> 1) How many models have you built this year? two, 1/48th FE2b and Fokker D.VII 2) How many finished WWI models do you have? Only around 12 counting the pre-WWI a/c. But have a large 'off topic' model RR in the basement with 100+ HO model freight cars (resin and plastic) hope I don't get kicked off the list for this. 3) How many unbuilt WWI kits to you have? Is my wife reading this? probably 35, Sierra vacs, Eduard, BM and Aeroclub 4) I'll add one: how many are started, close to completion? 3 in different states of 'work in progress' SPAD A.4 is closest to being finished. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Dec 1998 10:08:17 -0800 From: David & Carol Fletcher To: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu Subject: Re: How many... was Re: Welcome from Fla Message-ID: <3672B111.24FF@mars.ark.com> 1) How many models have you built this year? One (D.H.10A), if you give me the two weeks remaining in 1998 to finish the rigging... 2) How many finished WWI models do you have? After the gentle ministrations of the movers - two (plus a whole lot of spare parts that look like a German dump in 1919...); if I can salvage the Nieuport XVII, we'll call it three. 3) How many unbuilt WWI kits to you have? Four per cent of my stockpile: 35, including 'collector kits' (a dozen Aurora kits included in that). 4) How many WWI kits are partly built? Three - if I can find all the parts which were scattered far and wide by the aforesaid movers (I moved seven times in 4 1/2 years and am not sure which moving company did what any more...) It looks like a crummy score, until you consider that I'm primarily a cantilever monoplane modeller (yes, Dave V, I won't forget the Rapide!). I have a lot more of [off topic] on the workbench, but I'll credit you lot with the push to get the D.H.10A almost ready for roll-out! Now if I could spend less time responding to statistical questions and more time modelling... Plus, they should work on the Revell Type N (why bother, though? :-)) and possibly the HR Models (Hora) Type N - I will check on that later. Plus, if you haven't seen they have released replacement landing gear struts for the Nieuport 11 and 17. Please keep in mind these are all in the *correct* scale, 1/72nd. ;-) Matt Bittner ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
