I solved it last year by buying four plastic magazine holders that are sold (US) at Target stores in the school/office supply area. They are made of durable plastic are deep enough to protect the size of the DF's and hold around 30 DF's each. On the ends I have a label marked DataFiles 1-30, 31-60, etc and one titled Windsock Specials. Believe the magazine holders were around $3.50-$4 each. I keep an index of all the DF's on top for a handy reference so I know where to look. They keep the DF's organized and offer some protection to the covers and pages and look better than 70 slick cover magazines loosely sorted on a shelf. To all those people who have enthusiastically written about their bargains picked up at some exotic location such as US or UK nats (Hey, you pay $2000 AUD just to get there and it seems exotic pretty damm quick) instead of my usual mutttering along the lines of "Windsocks at $6.00 you must be kidding!!" I can do my own gloating. FINALLY!!! At the Aust Society of WW1 Aero Historians today I went berserk and bought 11 Datafiles and 11 back issues of Windsock for only $10 AUD each. (They retail for $17 new for the magazine and whatever you can get them for for the DF but usually not less than - oh your first born child or something equally ridiculous) In addition there was a great talk about the development of airships and their deployment in WW1 and of course the '14-'18 journal is now available. Either a famine or a feast ;-) Now wondering when I'll find time to read it all, Lorna ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Nov 1998 02:05:33 -0800 From: Shane & Lorna Jenkins To: WW1 posts Subject: Re:Slightly Off-Topic request. Message-ID: <3657E1ED.E69A5167@tac.com.au> James, For my Datafiles etc I go to my stationery store and buy display books. These are A4 sized pieces of hard plastic joined by a plastic binder. Plastic inserts then go into this. This inserts are very similar to clear sheet copy protectors in that they are open at one end so you can easily get at the material and you don't have a moisture problem. Place your DF in the insert, attach it to the spiral of the binder via the holes punched in the insert, place the covers of hard plastic on and then you have a storage system for your datafiles that is easily accessed but gives them extra protection. In Australia this cost about $3 to store 5 DF's so I suppose it will only cost you 50 cents :-( HTH Lorna Having spent hundreds of dollars on Datafiles and various modelling magazines, it has occurred to me to protect these from the vicissitudes of time by sealing them in some kind of ziplock bag. However, the sizes normally sold in grocery stores will not do very well. I am fairly sure that magazine- sized ziplocks are made, does anybody know a source for them? And how about sized for British magazines (and datafiles) since these are significantly larger than US magazines. Thank in advance. Yours, James D. My collection could stand to have two examples, and it would be nice to compare the two kits. I bought the Roland C.II from BM, and am very happy with it; the Eduard kit, which has yet to appear on shelves, is a C.IIa, sufficiently different to have both. So, for me, it's no big deal; all the manufacturers will get a piece of my business. On the other hand, it does seem a little bizarre, after years of a WW I kit drought, to have so many kits of the same aircraft coming out at once. On rethink, I'd better not send the whole set of lists to everybody as it may overload some free mailbox or business usage members. I'll send to those who request - I won't add any comments. The sale list is only for the select bunch on their mailing list - they are still selling the same items at full price to regular customers, so you have to use the special sale codes - no indication of this appears on the web page.
