Amazing how influenti= al Flight was at the time, even in official circles, in this and countless other cases. BTW - I've seen lots of DSA's superb work but never seen the man himself. I see his name on plans in their kits, along with vouchers for money off his propellors. I've never actually seen the props over here - are they worth the money? Seem awfully expensive to me. Sandy >> Working from memory here- no he's not Asian but he was raised in China, or born there, maybe both, I believe his parents were missionaries or some such. DanSan is some form of an endearment. WW I Aero had a piece by him a few years ago about his father's involvement with one of the first airplanes to fly in China- complete with plans drawn by DSA. It was begun in late May and I worked on nothing else save a 2 wk break to build a 1:48 F7F for a friend. The workbench is cleaned off and all the tools & paints are put up; hummm, looks unusual...have to do something about that. sp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Aug 1998 19:09:49 EDT From: TPTPUMPER@aol.com To: wwi Subject: Re: DSA's Tripe Drawings Message-ID: <54fa4112.35df4fbe@aol.com> Hi Kids! Last year there was a show on either Discovery or A&E about (who else?) the Red Baron. Dan Abbott was one of the "talking heads" on the show. (Not oriental in appearance, anyway, if that makes any difference.) THE CONTROVERSY was brought up, and the various opinions were expressed. FWIW, Dan likes to think he was shot down by another pilot, one of his own kind, not a "mere" ground gunner, but he did not weigh in heavily on that side. FWIW, and while his work is not perfect (in the eyes of some), I must express a great admiration for the man. He is kind and generous to a fault, not to mention talented. Have Fun!! Those of you that have been on the list for the last year or better, will remember when I first came on board that I had been looking for information on building the Revell 1/28th DR1. Well, unbeknownst to many of you, I did build it, and not only that I entered it in the National competition in Santa Clara this past July. Although I was very proud of the outcome, and felt that I had dome a commendable job, the judges were not as enthralled. Needless to say it did not even place, but thats OK, I build mostly for myself, and not for competition. However, someone must have liked it. Today as I was surfing through the IPMS home page, I discovered on page two of the photos of aircraft from the National contest in Santa Clara, there before me was my DR1. SO....surf on over to the following: www.lizpope.com/NATPIX/aircraft/dr1.jpg Revell's 1/28th DR1 may be dated, but she still makes up into a pretty Aeroplane. Russ Niles IPMS 4450 Too close for missles.....switching to guns. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
