Now you have ruined my preconceptions of you 1/72 guys as daredevil modellers who put as much (and more) detail as us 1/48 guys into your tiny gems. You mean you don't? Do I understand that it is us "Braille Scale" modellers who are pushing back the frontiers of what is humanly possible in micro-detailing? Does this mean that the 1/32 guys are on an even higher plane? ...and 1/28?.... bow, scrape, backing out of room backwards, tugging forelocks... TIA No personal experience.....other than knowing the guy who designed the DH1. A good friend saw their kits at the Toldeo show and proclaimed them to be really incredible! The down side is you need some pretty serious room on your MC is you want one. Figures I have heard are in the $700 - $1K range. Now this is for a inclusive kit so I guess that isn't bad. I will have first hand knowledge on week from today. The US Scale Masters R/C meet starts next Thursday. AMA will be there with a booth. If I am not flight judging I will poke through their stuff and try and get a price list for you. Combat Scale Models is a one man shop up in Michigan or Wisconsin, I think. Nice fellow. I have had several email conversations with him. The models are designed by a fellow in England and kitted here. The 1/6 models were in the $150 - $180 range and the 1/4 SPAD was about $250. Not bad. You still need to manufacture or purchase the additional items to bring them up to competition quality. Assuming that is your goal. I have not heard from him in quite some time. Nor have I seen any ads lately so I can only assume he is still in business. If you are looking for a kit of a WWi plane that looks pretty good but flies exceptionally well you might take a look at the Flair line of kits. They are not true scale airplanes (more sport scale) but are great kits and fly wonderfully. I know because I am flying their Pup, have a N-17 waiting on paint and a SE5a on the board. Their small Dr1 and Eindekker wait in the closet. I am previously built 2 of their Eindekkers. This year, my friend will be getting an Ansaldo SVA from the Serenissima boys that flew with everyone's eccentric, D'Annunzio. In trying to get ready, I have 2 questions on color. I have been using the Datafile and also the Color Profiles of WWI aircraft. I know the 2nd book is questioned by some, but it is Italian and seems to be pretty close to the datafile. Anyway, question #1: The radiator appears in both sources, even in the color drawings, to be very shiny, either gold(?) or copper. I'd be up for either, or any other suggestions. Question #2: The camo on the upper portion of the wings is a mixture of 2 colors. The Datafile says brown and green. The Color Profiles book shows it as a green and yellow combination. HELP!!!!! For those of you who haven't experienced WarBirds, I can best describe it by the text posted on the website: Welcome to WarBirds, the most sophisticated multiplayer WWII combat flight simulator available in the world. WarBirds is, according to Lee Buchanan of PC GAMER, "An online fighter jock's dream"... One of the most enjoyable parts of WarBirds (other than shooting people down) is the community aspect of its environment. WarBirds can hold hundreds of people in a single environment... So, imagine yourself firing up your P-51 Mustang and battling against hundreds of people from around the world. Or perhaps cooperating with your buddies on squadron night. Or even, recreating a famous WWII battle. It all can happen in WarBirds. It all does happen in WarBirds, every day. WarBirds contains an active Macintosh community. However, that community is still a small minority of the entire WarBirds community. As such, we don't receive perfectly equal support from Imagic Online. How can you help? Download the software, signup and start playing! The more Macintosh users on Warbirds, the better Imagic Online's support for Mac users will be. WarBirds Mac is currently in version 1.11r3. The release of 2.0 for the Macintosh is very close, having already been released for the PC. WarBirds software is free and online play is $2 per hour. However, there will be a free "beta" arena for Macintosh users when the Macintosh version of 2.0 is released to shake out any final bugs. (You can also practice offline for free against indestructible "drone" planes if you don't want to sign up for an account and just want to try the software) So, fire up your Mac, start your engines and join the rest of the Macintosh crowd in the WarBirds skies! Software, pricing info and further details can be found at: See you up there!
