Of course, I have been looking for a scheme.... I like the look of Paul Leim's 1628/18, but alas it is an early D.III; the CM kit represents a late D.III or D.IV, and I'm not going to modify the heck out of the wing just for Herr Leim! Still, the Kest 4b colors are appealing, and I'd like to do a machine similar to this one. 8349/18 springs to mind, but then I'd need a "star" design decal for the fuselage sides (the "9" I can handle). Does anyone know of another "less personalized" (i.e. more easily modeled!) D.III or D.IV from Kest 4b? Or, perhaps a reasonably priced sheet with 8349's markings? Thanks! Copies of which can be emailed if desired. Without checking references the D.III has a wide chord wing, while the D.IV has a narrow chord wing. 1628/18 appears to be a standard D.III so as long as the kit has a wide wing you should be safe. Another SSW D.III has a winged snake on the fuselage and the number 6 on fin. Personally I like 1626/18 with its diagonal stripes on the fin. I built one as Cedric Fauntleroy's Polish (7th) Kosciuszko Sq. mount, and it was a real "challenge"/pain in the bum. It will need a new engine/exhaust, guns (or at least barrels) wing ribs & trailing edge serrations, fuselage detail and maybe a new prop. At least there aren't any decal locations to sand off, and the wing incidence and spacing are close! (I'm attempting to finish a Smer Albatros as a Pasha D.V...) Whaddaya want for 7-10 USD? You might want to wait for the Eduard D.III and bash it with a Glencoe kit.
