But I'm afraid to open the box let alone build the thing. Luckily they provide a large window in the back of the box so you can look inside. Ingenious! The pieces are frighteningly delicate though nicely layed out. There are several photos of the finished product on the box which appear to be accurate to scale and the detail is amazing. I also have the Fokker EIII (which I brought myself to open). It is equally impressive. Someone built one and put it on display on a mirror base at my local hobbyshop, the effect was fantastic! I'm thinking of having them framed in the box and hanging them on the wall so I can look up at them from time to time and think of how wonderful they'd look and all the praise that would be heaped upon me if I ever got around to building one! Actually the one Alberto sent is mine ! ! ! ! Which I had sent him some time ago. It is nice to see these being passed around and enjoyed by all. I just hope the same will be true when the books start coming out :-) And in response to Paul Schwartzkopf's request for Gothas, I don't have any done in this series. However my older series of 1/48 profiles contains some if you want copies of the scans (although I like them, the 1/48 profiles don't match the quality of my newer 1/24 ones. So I won't be posting any of them, but copies are available for the asking) Regards Bob Pearson ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jul 1997 17:55:26 -0400 From: Geoff Smith To: "INTERNET:wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu" Subject: Re: Eduard Strip Down's Message-ID: <199707091755_MC2-1A8D-B38F@compuserve.com> Evening all, Paul Schwartzkopf & Brad Gossen wrote about the Eduard E.III & Camel. You see Bob Geoff had Bought this D.V. didn't know what to paint it like and also we where Investigating on Compuserves back if we could exchange attachments, and I chose your D.V. as the first thing to cross the ocean. Unless someone donates one and > challenges me to prove otherwise, I think Brad has the right idea. > > Frame the box without opening! > This is what I am concerned about with this kit. I have seen the Camel pictures, and it really looks good, but how many people can realistically assemble kits like this and get good results? I was not born with tweezers for fingers and a microscope for an eye. I may give the kit a shot, though. I just may not show the end result to anybody! :-) This brings to light one of my concerns, and I'm sure I am opening up myself as a *target* here for expressing it, but what the heck. Have the photo-etch people cornered us into thinking that their stuff is the only way to go? I still like scratch building detail items from bits of plastic and metal. This is what gives me my satisfaction from model building. Don't get me wrong, I use photo-etch parts all the time, but I have seen some sets that the parts are sooooo small that I can't figure out how to even trim them from the "sprue", let alone apply them to a kit. I used Tom's Modelworks British Interior and Gun sets for Hobbycraft's 1/32 Camel, and I found working with them to be frustrating at times, but the looks are definitely worth it. I must give a "tip of my hat" to anyone who uses photo-etch in 1/72 scale. I am concerned if people are trying to get our money by telling us that we need detail sets (and kits) that are, for all practical purposes, non-buildable by the majority of us. Maybe it is time that we become educated consumers. Is it worth the price if you can't use it? Paul A.
