I believe we're still using the $US over here; but, perhaps I'll check.... ;^) Cheers, Erik :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: "If you're not living Life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!" ............................................................................. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Feb 1997 10:27:08 -0800 From: "Marian Hollinger, Bradley Omanson" To: wwi Subject: Wednesday, 21 February 1917, Raoenel near St Just Message-ID: <330F3A7C.36BE@host.dmsc.net> Muggy day. It certainly looks as tho we won't have any flying for weeks to come as we tried to get out this afternoon and the machines sank to the hubbs of the wheels in the oozy mud on the field. We couldn't possibly leave the ground. Wrote up aviation notes all day for Major Parker and letters to Rodman and Helen Harper. Am very disgusted with the present prospect of flying. I came here for active service. It sure hurts to sit around like this lazy way. We've got lots of ambition but no chance to use it on the Boche. from the War Diary of E.C.C. Presentation of decorations early this morning. Went into St Just with Thaw afterwards. Thaw, Haviland, Soubiran, Parsons and myself motored up to see the Foreign Legion at and near Faverolles, east of Mondider this afternoon, particularly to see the Americans there and took along a lot of good liquor and cigarettes for them. We had a mightly hard hunt to locate any of the regiment at all and we saw none of the Americans. Finding the 9th Company, I found Ester there and we sure were delighted to see each other again. He is looking pretty well but says they are being worked as strenuously as ever. They've been in the trenches around Tilloloy, the same place where Ester and I were with the 3rd Regiment de Marche of the Premiere Etrangere in the Spring of 1915. It is very greatly changed now, Ester says, and the beautiful Chateau has been nearly totally destroyed by shells now and scarcely a wall is standing. Saw several of my old comrades along one of the roads as we passed by. My old company Four is now the Second, 1st Battalion. Meant to give Ester some cigarettes but forgot about most of them so will have to mail them to him to-morrow. On the way back we picked up 15 empty 75 m/m shells as souvenirs. We consumed all the liquor and felt quite happy by the time we got back after dark. Had a letter from Ruth Tuttle to day. Wish I would hear from darling Gertrude too. It seems hopeless indeed after having waited ever since early last August for a letter from her. from the War Diary of E.C.C. SuperScale, Blue Rider, or Americal? Does anybody have six roundels/rudder stripes I can buy - assuming people think that Americal is more accurate? I would buy my own, but I'm really close, and don't want to (key is "want to") wait. Thanks, all!!
