If we are thinking of the same aircraft, this sounds like Major Maxwell Kirby's 5th Pursuit Group SPAD. If so, it dates to April of 1919 rather than 1914-1918 and it was actually flying around the skies of Coblenz, Germany, rather than those of France. But, it is a real paint scheme. The "weird logo" appears to be a "kicking ram" (similar to the 95th Pursuit's "kicking mule") surmounted on a "V" but my photo is not really clear enough to be certain. The 94th Pursuit did the entire squadron up in these types of "weird" schemes for the same April, '19 "carnival" - the "Easter Aig" SPAD referenced in a previous post was but one, and certainly not the the wildest, of these schemes. This is what Bob referred to and it results in sanding away more material where your fingers push down. Thus any aluminium or similar rigid section would suffice. What John is proud (and secretive) about is the source of his double-sided adhesive pads which can be used and re-used many times and deliver exactly the right amount of stick, whilst being removable. I am now back in my home office which is in the "loft", next to all the unmade kits - and my wife wonders why I spend so much time working from home? Before the avalanche of e-mail comes in from the US members -I WAS WRONG. The DML subject is Reed Chambers 1919 SPAD, based at Nieuwied (?) Germany. (94th Aero Squad) - DML kit 5902. If this is the plane, the original correspondent saw, it is red/white striped fuselage and (chordwise) wings, with white stars on blue field on engine area and fin/tailplane - ie basically 'Old Glory'. Beware though, in the kit you get transfers for tail but half a million white stars to apply to your blue painted nose! The red stripes are left to your airbrush. What I've used is a Scotch/3M product called "Wallsaver Removable Poster Tape", product number (I think) 34-7032-9332-3. Granted, it's not as reusable as the Aeroclub stuff sounds, but if memory serves, it only cost me US$1.20 for 4.16 yards of the stuff. The only disadvantage is if you don't cover the entire tape surface, then the plastic "sanding-dust" definitely "de-tacks" the tape, making it unuseable for another go around.
