They are from Grub Street out of England. All are Hard Cover. 1. Under the Guns of the Red Baron. The complete record of Von Richthofen's victories and victims. 224 pages, 100 b/w photos and 10 color paintings, 4 maps with the locations of each victory, Squadron's stock number is GS0027 and the cost is $35.00 2. Over the Front. A Complete record of the fighter aces and units of the United States and French Air Services, 1914 - 1918. 259 pages, 200 b/w photos. Each pilot is presented with his unit bio, any special notes about his flying abilities, awards and a full victory list with date, type A/C, location, time of victory and confirmation sourse. Squadron's stock number is GS0054 and the cost is $49.95 3. Above the Lines A complete record of the fighter aces of the German Air Service, Naval Air Service and Flanders Marine Corps 1914 - 1918. This book also lists each pilot with a short bio including his rank, units of assignment and complete victory list like the ones in Over the Front. 259 pages, 200 b/w photos. Squadron's stock number is GS0073 and the cost is $49.95 The 4th book does not cover WWI, but picks up in 1920 through 1973. It is: 4. Star & Bars: A tribute to the American Fighter Ace 1920 - 1973. A detailed reference of the combat records of the 1400 plus U. S. Pilots to earn the "ACE" Title since the end of WWI. 698 pages, 250 b/w photos. Squadron's stock number is GS0027 and the cost is $69.95 There is going to be a reissue of the volume that covers the British involvement during the Great War. I have not herd when it will be available, but that book will give any historian or model builder enough material to fill his building calendar for several years to come. Just think, pick a squadron or unit, spend a few days going over the data, and start a collection of all the ACES and their victims. Boy does this ever open some doors for some interesting collections. But for now, just my general impressions until I get into it (Have ordered the Czechmaster Resin 2A2 as well, [via Usk webpage] and might combine them) Vac- major parts as expected White metal- engine cooling vanes, wind driven generator, wheels, struts (and very nice, too), guns (could use Aeroclub's instead), and other fiddly bits Large two sheet decal selection with "every unit represented" (AEF units that is)- nice! Printed in at least 15 colors, well worth the price of the kit! First Impression: Well molded, crisp panel lines on forward fuselage and cowl. Perforated vents so characteristic of the Salmson's engine compartment are well done for a vac, but I will be replacing the panels with photoetched ones and opening the perforations with the method that Eduard's Hannover panels utilize. The plastic of the fuselage gets a bit thin and might need reinforcement. Metal parts are clean and the struts are absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to dive into this kit. The building instructions are complete, and a nice 3-view is featured, but no interior details are depicted. I guess I'll have to find some drawings! More will follow as I get into it, but I can recommend it highly based on the first look (now if it won't go together as designed, I'll present myself for swift and decisive punishment to the group!) Is 1/72nd dying out? Is this partly due to the ageing of the modeling fraternity? Such a shame. Note that this in *no* way slams builders of bigger scales. It's just an observation on my part.
