This year it will be in conjunction with the IPMS Region VI Regional. So far, there will be over 100 vender tables for the shoppers. The following Manufacturers will be there: AeroMaster, Classic Airframes, Testors, Tamiya, Monogram/Revell, Minicraft, Kalmbauch, True Details, Encore and LTD. Squadron Signal will have a booth, and Don Greer will be available to autograph books, and Bert Kensey from Detail & Scale will also be available to answer questions and autograph books. The contest will be a normal IPMS Style event with 100 plus categories. There will be some special after hours events for those of you who are IPMS National members and have registered for the Regional. As an added bonus, Squadron Mail Order will be having an open house the same weekend. If anyone is going, let me know, I would like to meet you and say hi. It will be nice to be able to put a face with the name. If you need additional info or registration paperwork, E-Mail me your name and address. I will give it to the contest chairman at IPMS NCT and they will mail you a packet. And how do you plan around the funky > things like wingtips? > > Randy Okay, I think I can get this one- I finished my 1/48 Fokker E.V last night (no applause thanks) and I have it sitting here on my desk at work, geez I'm a show-off. Anyway, I used a set of scale drawings as a pattern to cut out the lozenge, the ones from the Windsock Datafile are very good. Before cutting the loz make sure that the pattern is the right size by laying it over the fuselage area. I also tended to allow a little extra for overlap, if need be I trimmed the decal once it was dry using a new scalpel blade Lay your paper pattern on to the back of the loz sheet- making sure that it's properly aligned, draw as close as possible to it using a pencil, cut it out and off you go. As for wings- I don't recall seeing and E.V of D.VIII with loz on the wings and I haven't had a chance to try that one out yet. At any rate I'm happy with my results, at least af far as the loz goes. (1) I am truly sorry no one seems to enjoy my brand of humor. I suppose I will cancel my debut at the 'Comedy Club' as I do not need the rotten vegetable suppliment. (2) I do not smoke nor do I drink (alcohol). When I wrote that post, I was running a 102 degree temprature from the flu virus I contracted from the clandestined government spraying program. I was simply feeling funny at that moment. Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me. (3) They grow vast amounts of that "stuff" in Alaska. Take a look at the new 'Miracle Grow' commercial that was just released. That six foot cabbage was the Alaskan state fair winner this year, and in fact they often do catch offenders by the size of their electric bills. (These adverts make one wonder how big the ants are in James Whitmore's garden) Oops! There I go again! I really need to increase my stodgy quotient, really I do! (4) I was hoping someone would find the adverbs I slipped in and call me on them, but it appears that the rumors I have heard about the public education system would have some basis of fact. The Flyin' Wrench ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Mar 1996 10:10:42 +1100 (EST) From: Paul Butler To: wwi Subject: Re: Vist to OZ by Anthony & Ellen Sanchez Message-ID: <199603152310.KAA18243@melb.werple.net.au> Hello to all The coming visit by Anthony and Ellen Sanchez prompts me to give some advice in regard to taking photographs at the Australian War Memorial Museum (Canberra) and at the RAAF Museum at Point Cook (near melbourne, Vic). Both museums will allow flash to be used but the AWM discourages the use of tripods. If you want to use a tripod, I advise you to get permission from the Head of the Security first. You must also inform security or you intentions if you plan an extensive photograpy session. The first time I did one, I was not away of the proper etiquette and the Security people watched me like a hawk. The next time I contacted the curators who in turn informed Security. I was given a special pass and the Security people were very friendly and helpful The AWM is very poorly lit and the light is very yellow (incandescent). The RAAF collection is shown in better light (roof skylights if I remember correctly). The light in the AWM is so poor that my manual SLR is almost unusable. It is very difficult to focus (even for flash) and I cannot read the needle pointer exposure meter in the view finder. This problem exists for an f1.8 50mm lens (bad) and a 135mm telephoto (hopeless). If you are good at judging distances you might get better results by relying upon the depth of field of you lens. I have had very mixed results over a number of trips using 400 ASA film with flash and very fast (1600 exposed at 1000) film without flash. Good focus has been a matter of luck. Someone else may want to comment about all this but I suspect that an autofocus camera is the way to go for this particular situation. At the RAAF museum, I got excellent results using 1000 ASA film exposed at 800. There is sufficient light for focusing and by overexposing the film a bit the processor was able to give me good detail. At the time I was particularly interested in the Hawker Demon (1930s) which is finished in polished aluminum and silver dope. Further to the help you got from Shane, the AWM Annex is only open on Wednesdays and Sundays between 11am and 4pm. At is located on the corner of Vicars and Callan Streets, Mitchell. Local telephone number is (06) 9241 8949. Hope this helps Anthony and Ellen and perhaps anyone else who may want to visit. If you have any particular questions about these two sites, feel free to ask and I will trie to help.
