While I'm at it, any decent rules? Have looked at and passed on Over the Top. Boy, am I picky or what? I'm just hoping someone knows of a nice-looking complete late-war line in 15 or 18mm. I remain, yours, etc. Larry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Dec 1996 21:54:18 EST From: mbittner@juno.com To: wwi Subject: Some news Message-ID: <19961226.205547.3782.0.mbittner@juno.com> This is the first time I've seen then magazine, but Scale Aviation Modeller International, I believe from the UK, is a great magazine. Anyway, a couple of tidbits I read were: some company out of the UK (I think Flight Academy) is producing a resin Sopwith LCT 1 1/2 Strutter. Also, it looks like it won't be until April when the Fokker D.VII In Action comes out. Whooppee. I, for one, would much rather wait (and wait...and wait...) for the Imrie book. Also, the latest FSM came Tuesday. The only item of interest is their review of the Blue Max Pfalz D.XII. Does anybody know Phil Kirchmeir (sp?), the reviewer? I am not impressed with his reviews. He left off the lozenge (he even states that he's not sure if he's going to put it on) as well as the rigging. Hey, I *trust* his reviews, don't you? Well, I hope everybody got want they wanted. The only items I got modeling wise was a great, off-topic book (thanks, Erik!), and a pack of #11 Xacto blades. I guess I shouldn't complain, since I did get a Czech Master Pfalz Dr.I earlier in the month (thanks again, John!). Hopefully, I'll get to it soon. Anybody else (besides Ken and I) pick up a Temens MoS type I? I haven't spec'ed it out yet, but I wonder how "easy" it would be to convert this to a type N. Any takers? ;-) Matt mbittner@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Dec 1996 00:15:31 -0500 From: "S.M. The man I have in mind is generally considered to be an accomplished modeler, but is bitter at us IPMS guys and won't have anything to do with us. I'll check around and make sure I'm not slandering the fellow, but if memory serves me well, he's a "modeling hermit". Cheers! SAM is a terrific *General* interest magazine and I used to get it every month but recently WWI coverage has been very sparse apart from ads and I tend to scan before deciding to buy it or not. If you are into transfers then they allways do pages of reviews with photos of the sheets in question: They also do this extensively for aftermarket brass frets - but the best section is usually the news which gives comprehensive coverage of anything that threatens to appear. Good colour and artwork and maybe a flood of email to dmzee@kbnet.co.uk suggesting that more WWI coverage would increase International sales would improve this no end. BTW after all the coverage of the Waldo W29 some may have missed the review of this kit in the last Scale Models Int - wherein the reviewer obviously liked the kit - but there was no mention of the Sierra alternative which I, for one, am very happy with. In an effort to provide some bit of service to the list members who have provided me with numerous items and information I have set up a web site: "http://www2.firstsaga.com/lfendy/fof_site.htm" expressly for use of list members. The site will serve sort of as a clearing house for modeling items related to WWI. It initially is divided into three section: 1/72, 1/48, and misc.(Everything else>. If you have wants or disposals that you would like listed just e-mail your list to me along with any special info (i.e. Price, Will trade, etc.) and I'll add it to the page. Please include a valid e-mail address as they will be used in the listing. All negotiations are to be handled between the parties, not me. If you do part with something or change your mind please let me know so I can update the list. I will update the site weekly so that new items will appear on Sunday nights. Other than the fact I get to practice and hone my html skills I derive no other benefit except to provide a service to the list members. No dealer lists will be published. I don't know if a site like this already exists but I thought one specifically for WWI related modeling items would be useful. Len lfendy@firstsaga.com _ Is Jerry Garcia still grateful ? Comd't in charge of Amer-Escadrille was here this p.m. and told us three we would be called out there in 8 or 10 days. I may be 1st to go out on account of my better record in flying. My guess, sight unseen, would be that the wing remains as it was originally molded. How much was this shop charging for this kit ? I built one an am please with the results but think there is a rib station missing on the kit that shows in the Datafile drawing. If I was building another I'd consider converting it to an E.I as the wings were shorter and fuselage (I believe also was shorter) and (you'd) probably have they only one on your block. nb (still): DML Hippert's D.VII - now adding the checker's via black decals ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Dec 1996 15:09:56 -0800 From: bshatzer@orednet.org (Bill Shatzer) To: wwi Subject: Re: Nie.28 Message-ID: <199612272309.AA12280@ednet1.orednet.org> > >Can anyone tell me the *original* release date of the >Aurora Nieuport 28? Just got the reply back from the list server about who, and the number of subscribers. So, we have 129 people subscribing. Where are the rest of ya? We have a core of about 20 or so "regulars", and the rest lurk in the background. Hey, not there's anything wrong with that. Heck, there are a few lists that I just lurk at, without contibuting anything. However, we want to hear what you have to say. Modeling is an "interactive" hobby. Sure, you can model without the interaction, but the interaction not only helps us "grow" as modelers, but also provides some great comraderie. So, for all you lurkers, what are you currently working on? I'll step out on a limb here. Not only is work progressing ssslllooowwwlllyyy on the Eduard Albatros D.V, but I've started the Glencoe Nie.28. Yep, the scale police are going to get me for this one. ;-) Okay, people.
