Message-ID: Hello! A Merry Christmas wish (or another non-denominational greeting as appropriate) to all of you. This is truly one of the bright spots on the Internet and this group certainly makes my day more enjoyable. I hope that Santa brings you all just what you want -- I've been talking to her, you know! ;-) Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All! Hallion was a history prof at Univ of Maryland when he wrote it, and it was published when he was the historian for the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards. He has always been flight test oriented, so there is that leaning in the book. He is now the Air Force Historian, in charge of the Office of Air Force History at Bolling AFB, Washington DC. From his past and present work, I'd say he more than qualifies as a "REAL" historian. Seeing people use the term everyday in ways that surprise me, I'm almost upset that someone would slam him like that. Over usage of the term begins with the correspondents I have who tell me that after X number of years in the aerospace field, they are now historians. Why does this happen in aviation? My associates do not run across pharmacists who have retired and are now historians of phamacology... Merry Christmas to all! Message-ID: <9612240900.aa28230@scosysv.speechsys.com> I think there's much to be said for the idea that WW1 was won for the Allies by the German secret services and their bright idea--bringing Lenin to Russia. When the revolution spread to Kiel, Berlin, and the Ruhr, the German military had to make peace fast so that they could put down the threat to their military-industrial complex. Then there was that other stroke of genius, the Zimmerman telegram.
