He was the Historian for the US Air Force and his views certainly must have made his employer happy. The book is hopelessly pro Allies and his conclusions about how effective air power was or could have been are ridiculously optimistic. I don't think that he understands that WWI was won by an overwhelming manpower and industrial might - and not by a better air force. I seem to recall that he also has the Junkers metal monoplane fighters being able to go 145 mph! Got up early. Put in demand for 48 hours in Paris over Xmas from 10 o'clock tomorrow. Wrote to Dr & Mrs Bradley. Went to town below here, Neuilly, with Parsons & Bigelow at 10:30 to visit Amer. Ambulance there. Stayed to lunch and all of p.m. Some nice fellows there. Bigelow and Parsons went on into Paris in p.m. but decided to wait until to-morrow myself so went back to Plessis in evening. Wrote letters to Norma Howell in p.m. Turned in early. ******************** from the diaries of E.C.C. In my opinion, both are well engineered kits worth building. When it comes to accuracy, the wingtips on the Waldo kit looks to square and the underside of the wing appears to have a break instead of a smooth flowing curve. On the other side, the representation of the area around the cutout for the gunner looks better on the resin kit. For some reason Waldo has not attempted to mould the rudder, you are left to cut it out from plastic sheet. The floats provided by Waldo has very fine detail on top and bottom, the weight makes Strutz a must unless you have more trust in plastic than I have. If you prefer resins so much that you are willing to part with 25GBP, go for the Waldo kit that you can order from Hannants or the people behind Waldo, otherwise go for the Sierra one. Even if they are monoplanes, you have to be careful with the wings on the vacuform due to the flowing curves that are apparent from photos and drawings. I have a set of drawings used for building the W.33 in Norway to check against and both models capture the general look of the Hansa Brandeburg floatplanes. Regarding references, Colin Owers is working on article(s) for Air Enthusiast on the Hansa Brandeburger floatplanes based partially on the original drawings we have located. He is also working on a series of profiles for Flying Machines Press on various WW1 subjects. Looks like we will have something to spend money on next year as well... When talking on the future, my son has started working on vacuforms and he is still less than 5 years old. I score around the parts with a knife while he snap them out and hand them back to me if I have left to much plastic around the edges. And people say that vacuforms are just for the most experienced? Guess I will have to hand him a Me 109 or two to get some experience on untill I will let him build some real aeroplanes Well, it is time for me to finish off for now with the very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, outside my window it looks like a postcard with 15cm of snow and -10 deg C - excellent modelling conditions God Jul og Godt Nyttaar oenskes fra Knut Erik ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 19:51:14 -0500 From: DavidL1217@aol.com To: wwi Subject: Re: No Subject Message-ID: <961223195113_2086657145@emout16.mail.aol.com> Actually it was won by the Royal Navy and its blockade of the Baltic!
