Message-ID: <199612210837.AA26396@ednet1.orednet.org> Ok, it's off topic but at least they're biplanes. I've got two 1/32 scale Staggerwings Unlimited kits of the Beech Staggerwing which I've decided I'll never build. John Burns lists 'em at "$100 and up" in his 1994 "Kit Collectors' Value Guide" but I'll sell 'em for $60 plus postage if anyone's interested. Minor smoke damage to the boxes but the plastic, decals, and instruction sheets are fine. I thought I'd offer 'em here first. E-mail me if you're interested. (yeah, I know, the price is ridiculous for a kit which originally sold for $5 but that's what they seem to be bringing. At least a 40%+ discount from John's suggested values should bring the price closer to sanity.) As a' true scots ken, Christmas is a'right but the real festivities start on Dec 31 - Hogmanay!!!!!! The only drawback is that my eyes don't start to function properly again until about Robert Burns Day in January and then they're knackered again until about mid-year. Why do you think I am a 1/48 modeller Matt? Seriously though, joining the list is one of the most enjoyable things I've done in '96 (sad person) and I wish you all the best for '97 in every scale from 1/144 to 1/1. Oh hell Merry Christmas and Happy New Year :-) If you have been real good you might even get that 1/72 or 1/48 suprise you wanted. (I have been hinting for both, so its probably shirts again!) John: I have a copy of "The Guns 1914-18," Weapons Book #27 of Ballantines Illustrated History... On page 24 there's a picture of a "120mm seen in the Argonne in 1914." There are 2 soldiers on the left of this rear, open-breach view of the gun. There are two photos on p. 24, and the credit isn't precise, but either the Imperial War Museum or the US Archives supplied it. By the way--ever since I was a little kid, my dad has talked about the "French 75," and I've always thought I'd like to build a model of one. What's available? I thought it may be of interest to the readers of this list, since the buried fuselage containing the body was located because some hobbyists had matched German victory claims against American loss records. So, digging up and recording obscure facts is sometimes more than simply academic. There is an old Palmer, later Life-Like 1/24 kit floating around. Not in currrent production any place that I know of but probably available through the usual "old kit" sources for less than an arm and a leg. The "Kit Collector's Value Guide" gives a suggested value of $4-$8 for these which would suggest that they are not especially rare or hard to find.
