Machine rocked like a cork in the surf. No more flying all day. Snow turned to rain. Wrote to Mother, Bill de L., Joe Miricki, Uncle Lock. Rec'd two letters from the Major saying he had seen Col Girad & Dr Gros about my getting leave to the States and thinks it very possible for me. Suggests only 10 days but I think I might as well ask for 15 in the U.S. Will have to pay my own passage but may get 3/4's off. *********************** from the diaries of E.C.C. The Ax Murder gag was pretty funny the first day, but the second day it got a little less funny, and the next day a little less funny, and so on. By now I live in fear of receiving "Re: Ax murder" letters. By tomorrow the paint will have worn off the surface of my delete key. Let's work together and think of something worthwhile to talk about. The makeup was one of those in the Adams Family 'Lurch' style -- looking like one who has no emotions left and the soul has long ago been lost. My wife wanted to see what my makeup looked like up-close, so I wore it home from the theatre (at about 1:00am -- last trains and all). I rode the MBTA (the Boston subway system) and got a car all to myself. People took one look in the door of the car at the station, and chose another. -- This has been Mark and/or Mary Shannon at Shingend@ix.netcom.com Remember that every cliche started out as a stroke of genius. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Dec 1996 17:59:32 -0500 From: john@rollmodels.com (John Roll) To: wwi Subject: Re: Ax murder Message-ID: John wrote, >> Once, at boy scout camp, (Many, many, many years ago) I stabbed a guy in >> the hand with a fork. Yes there was blood. I won't describe things any further. It's dinnertime in the Roll household. Here I am trying to reconstruct meself in the eyes of the group as a 'kinder, gentler' sort and you _had_ to bring up my sordid past! ;^) Well I shan't be drawn out. No matter how much anyone begs, there will be no further Libertarian rants against gun control forthcoming. (And now for something completely different.) On a more 'on topic' note I just got the new Blue Max DH2 in the mail today. Very nice! Thin, thin cross-section wings. The nacelle body is made up of five parts; the nose and top decking are supplied as two halves plus two side panels and the floor. The side panels have formers and bracing wires crisply molded on the inside surfaces and stitching (but no stretched fabric effect) on the outsides. The tail booms are to be constructed from fine stainless steel tubing and white metal struts on a jig that is supplied with the kit. The jig is recessed at the places where the parts are to be cemented. This should make for a very sturdy assembly Material to make the interplane struts is supplied in the form of a length of Contrail strut stock. This is too flexible IMHO. Strutz should be substituted here. The Lewis gun, engine crankcase, cylinders, engine mount, tailskid, rudder bar and control horns are rendered very finely in white metal. The landing gear struts are injection molded and look to be able to easily bear the weight of the finished model. Markings are furnished for two aircraft: 7907 of Capt. L.P. Aiziewood, 32 Sqdn. and 6011 of Lt. C. Kerr, 24 Sqdn.. Parts are included for two different modifications of the gun slot at the front of the nacelle. Box art is Kerr's aircraft dueling with an Albatros D II. Looks like another winner! Now I need to send them instructions to reserve me a Camel and a CL. II and a Walfisch and a... Cheers! Pretty close, according to two references I have (John Burns and Brad Hansen), the Byplanes kits were in production from 1976 through 1978. In addition to the Snipe and Jungmeister kits, Pamela Veal Ltd. also issued a Polikarpov I-16, a Yak-3, and a Meteor Mk.8. All in quarter-scale. Ah, don't get me started on old kits - I get all misty eyed and sentimental.
