You guys have been either busy or very bored over the holidays! I met up with Bill C at Timeless Hobbies. If any of you guys get a chance check out his DVa and SE5a. They were beautiful. He's one of those guys who has figured out how to stretch sprue. Really some nice work. First time I got a chance to put a face to one of the names on this list...a very rewarding experience.(My mom was relieved...she said the only people you meet in person on the internet are axe murderers...I don't think he is one.) What a neat store. It was sandwhiched away intyo a modern style strip mall. From the outside it looked like the kind of plaace that would have a bunch of car models and maybe one or two modern airplanes. Inside it looked the same, except in the corner a sign said "airplanes". WOW ! All sorts ofg WWI stuff right out there on the shelves to look at and drool over. Picked up an Aurora Brisfit for way too much money, but I don't want to wait forever for Eduard to come out with one. Also picked up Artiplast's Ansalda SVA. Looked the same as the SMER kit, but had decals for the Serenessima(sp?) flight. Later, got a chance to stop off at Cantigny Gardens. Some nicely recreated WWI trench scenes and 1 or 2 tanks.(No idea of make or model...I may not be a purist about scale or color, but I am about what I do models of!) Well, thaqt's it for this little travel brochure. Back to reading all th email. Decals are for A.H. "Harry" Cobby. Cobby was the 3rd highest scoring Australian ace of WW1, the highest scorer of the AFC (the other two were both RNAS), and highest scoring survivor. Flew with 4AFC, had something of the order of 24 victories, 5 OoC, and 13 balloons The Chaplin marking is okay, but I like the two inscriptions better "Please do not spit", and "It is dangerous to lean out the windows" (IIRC), both liberated from trains in the UK. Aircraft is B2404 "D", and does not appear as his mount in any combat. I suspect it was used by him during a training stint in England - hence the signs. So true. I've been trying to get those as I can. The Nat's are great for that type of thing. Thanks to Joe, I've got the Avions article on the 'puter. I can't believe the amount of *trouble* the author went through on the corrections. Oh sure, much needed, but for example: He added sheet styrene to the tail surfaces to get them corrected; me, I'm going to scratch them, as that's much easier. Request: I thought about the checks a little more, and thanks to a hint from Ken, decided to try my hand at laser printing them onto decal paper. What I was wondering is if anybody can scan the Datafile 1/72nd drawings into the computer for me. Yea, I know all about copyright, but I only plan on using them myself, and I will *not* give those drawings out. Unless someone's willing to *give* me a Skybirds 86 kit to trade. ;-) Any takers? That, to me, is a shame. I seriously hope that MPM still go through with their release. Although great kits, I'm becoming disenchanted with the current cost of Pegasus. Yea, I know I can get them cheaper going direct, but still. I have the Pegasus D.III, and I am extremely disappointed. The bottom wing is terrible warped, and all the white metal is bent in some form. True, these are not show stopping, but for US$20+, I expect more. And it appears Pegasus did *not* correct the engine cut out from the D.V (see the article in Windsock Vol 11 No 2). I also think it's a shame they molded the guns in-situ with the fuselage center section. I know I definitely will replace these guns. Again, a major disappointment for me. I am so enamoured by the Temens MoS type I, that it will be a long time before I find another kit to match this one in overall quality and pricing. I have Hasegawa/Monogram Camel which Hasegawa added multi marking decal sheet. The kit parts are nice outline and mold. Mold which offered by Aurora with marking are erased smoothly and Monogram reworked fine corrections. You can work to add and correct some details mainly cockpit. This kit schale is about 1/46h. who is to complain? But I want new Camel kit in *1/48th* too:-). Cheers! --Hirohisa Ozaki. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Dec 96 23:03:19 PST From: "Shelley Goodwin" To: wwi Subject: Re: Windsock v9,#6 for trade Message-ID: <9611038496.AA849685109@mx.Ricochet.net> Joe, That's a good issue for Imperial Russian Air Service (or whatever the accurate title was for the Tsar's air fleet) fans. Too bad I've got it already! Riordan ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Windsock v9,#6 for trade Author: wwi@pease1.sr.unh.edu at Internet Date: 12/3/96 6:44 AM I find myself with an extra copy of Windsock v9,#6 (I loaned it to a friend, who didn't return it, so I bought another one, and my friend finally returned it to me over Turkey day!). I was wondering if there is anyone out there who might want to trade? I need a copy of Windsock v11#4 for my collection, so I would love to trade for it, but I would be willing to swap for an issue of C&CI or OTF (or practically anything) that I don't have. If your interested, please let me know, and we can work out a deal. - Joe +=================================+====================================+ | Joseph R. He was probably really a nice guy -- someone who believed in living it up. Also someone nutty enough to volunteer for flight duties at the age of 52. If you want to read more about him, he has a chapter all to himself in a new book titled OVER THE BATTLEFRONTS (Sterling Publishing Co.) -- written by some guy whose name slips my mind at the moment. Nice photos, too.
