I have a PARTIALLY built 1/9th scale SE5A by Hasegawa, you know the big wood frame "museum quality" kit. The fuselage is complete as is the lower left wing. Other than that the kit is complete. Would someone like to put out a bid? I am not expecting much but I don't think I could go lower than $100. Someone tell me if I am waaaay off base here. I can give more details at the end of the month. The kit is at the 'rents house and I am going home to see them so I will check on it while I am there. I got the Eduard Sopwith Triplane from Hannants on the weekend and haven't told anyone! (along with a SU-22 so there :-6 that's an attempt at a smiley poking out it's tongue!). Noce mouldings, using the new process. The details are a bit softer than I was expecting, but very good. The price was UKP 10.45, 50p lower than the pkl-2 (whatever the helicopter thing was called), which is about 50p more than the original EIII release, so Eduard seem to have made an effort on pricing. However the superb resin vickers from the Pup kit is replaced by an ok plastic version and the metal engine has made it's periodic disappearance, and the metal cowling from the pup has not been repeated. Like I said, the plastic ones are ok. Of course there is no lozenge in this kit :-o so that may also have something to do with the low price. It has markings for two aircraft, but can't remember details. Unfortunately I have no references for the tripe but noted the channel behind the engine has been added as a separate part, and the cowling has a small insert to be added at the chin to give the correct vents. On the sprues the aircraft looks tiny and fragile (especially compared to the huge, ugly SU-22 in the same scale). Anyway, my impression looking at the box was of a nice kit, and lets hope that new Eduard kits keep up the standard. Would like more resin vickers though, anyone know who supplies them? brian ________________________________________________________ re: Eduard News > Hi again all (it's a busy day for me!) > > I just received some news regarding Eduard: > > Eduard is re-releasing the SSW D.III and Fokker E.III but, "Because of > terminal mold damage not many will be available." > > Other Eduard kits on the way, but not here yet, include a special Albatross > (yeah, I know. that's the way they spell it though!) I found it interesting that the Pfalz was such a poor performer and it was placed in production given the testing the German Airforce conducted before awarding contracts. Perhaps the arms race of 1914 tossed some of the better logic aside and Fokker could not keep up with the military demand - hence the mix of Eindeckers. One of my favorite shots is the E.II at Palestine (given the little coverage seen of this front) with the three Turks standing alone the side of the wing. I was surprised to see the cover painting of a Pfalz in natural fabric; I would have thought Brian Knight would have chosen the more common white doped finish. I've enjoyed Brian Knight's paintings since the mid -1960's when I was buying the .50 cent Revell WWI planes; while majoring in art in college he was still my standard to try and mimic. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 13:01:57 -0500 From: Charles_A._Duckworth@notes.up.com (Charles A. According to the article, original fabric samples were sent to a labratory in Czech Republic (I can't remember the city, but probably Prague) that specializes in analyzing pigments of the art works of the great masters so that museums can restore the originals. Original fabric samples from the Berg were sent to the lab. The lab's conclusion was that the pigments were consistent with a light and dark gray rather than the tan (clear doped linen) and dark green seen on the plane and in the current research. The explanation for divergent colors was based on the chemical reaction (over time) of the original paint/dye and the dope used as a sealing agent. Rather than the bleaching effects of (sun)light although this certainly must be taken in to account as well. Having worked at a museum, I know that the artisans take great care when restoring their valuable peices, so assuming that the lab report is/was not a hoax, I would believe the article. I also have to assume that Mr. Rimmel checked (i.e., verified some of the basic details) out this article before publishing it. I think that the best thing to do, would be to have multiple labs test the original fabric samples to see if they come up with the same conclusions. - Joe nb: 2F.1 Camel & naval lighter nu: USS Pennslyvania (1918 conversion) +=================================+====================================+ | Joseph R. So were not talking about some random fabric sample from a individual's collection. The provenance should be unchallengeable (hence the samples accurate). I can also make available my modest archive (as I have already) and one or two addresses/ connections to the library. On one of my infrequent visits to San Diego and the museum, I perused a few early Windsock issues, one of which had Drachen kite-balloon drawings in it. I will also include videos, such as Four Years of Thunder and the Red Baron autobiography on A&E, as well as selected movies as I acquire them. If the data requests are maintained at their current tempo, I don't see any problem with keeping up with them. I suppose I could throw together a bibliography of holdings, if this comes to pass. The only requirements would be that all requestees/lendees pay for round-trip postage or copy costs for limited portions of the the reference materials, and try to limit the lending time to 2-3 weeks. All that remains is to work out the shipping arrangements. How much does all that stuff weigh? Anybody read Sagittarius(sp?) Rising? How about Flying Fury or Goshawk Squadron? A couple of years ago, I had a minor disaster the wet the leading edge of sveral volumes of C&C (US) and OTF. They have since been replaced and the damage volumes have been sitting in a box. I just had a look at them and I could not in conscience sell or trade them. All are water stained but all pages are legible and none are stuck together. It sounds worse than they are. What to do with them? Figured it would be a crime to toss them out so why not give them to the list? This would amount to setting up a library with a librarian (volunteers?). I am open to suggestions, help, condemnation or any other remarks. Available are the following: C&C OTF Volume 9 1-4 Volume 4 3 Volume 10 1-4 Volume 5 1-4 Volume 11 1,2,4 Volume 6 1-4 Volume 12 1-4 Volume 7 1-3 Volume 13 1-4 Volume 14 1-4 Having read of the disgraceful prices for Harlyfords _Fighter Aircraft of the 1914-1918 War_ and knowing that it is bacic text in our hobby, and aware that it's availability is very limited, I will donate a copy to tje library. (My two copies cost me $8,50 each) I will list the basic contents of the C&C and OTF volumes later. Suggestions and help please. My suggestion would be Priority Mail in US. Air Mail to those who live across the vaious rivers and ponds that separate us. US members would enclose the three buck or whatever stamp with their return. Our across the pond members might have an idea on how to handle their case. Two to three weeks turnaround sounds good to me. Are you going to be able to handle it with your web page and all? I'll check on the shipping and if it isn't to steep, I'll foot the tab. We must limit to list membes or it will sure as hell get out of hand and we would be in danger of losing it all. Requests should be by e-mail to the librarian. Need to put it in the FAQ or separate deal so members will know what is available. Give me a time frame for up and running. What database do you use? Do you have a ZIP drive? Neatest thing since the DR-1. 100 meg on disk not much bigger than a 3.5 Speaking of videos, Belle & Blade has lots of good stuff. To date myself, I saw the original _Dawn Patrol_ as a kid. I have both in my video library along with damn near all tje others. Just got _Lilac Time_ and _Crimson Romance_ from Belle & Blade. Thanks again, Cheers, Bill ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 294 *********************
