(Was is the D.I > or the D.II that was in-line - ditto with the D.III and D.IV?) According to Alex Imrie in "Fokker Fighters of World War One", the Fokker DI used the 120 HP Mercedes. The DII and DIII were Oberursel powered, and the DIV used the 160 HP Mercedes. The Gray/Thetford 'Bible', lists the following as powered by the Mercedes DII 120HP inline 6: Albatros BII (late)/BIIa/BIII Halberstadt DII LVG BII (some) AEG BII/BIII Aviatik BII DFW BII (some) Euler BIII Fokker M16E Fokker M18Z (DI) Fokker V6 (cool!) I hear oven > cleaner is a good model paint remover for plastic, though I've never had > the courage (or the need) to try. Yes, it really works. Spray on, prfereaby in a stainless-steel sink, leave it for a few minutes, and rinse off with tepid water; really stubbord paint may need more time or application, and a scrub with an old tooth-brush. I've even left parts in it for 25 minutes, with no harm at all to the plastic. Out flying in early a.m. Got two fair trips but motor worked badly. Slept some to make up for last nights loss. Wrote long letter to Betty W. Received bid for her graduation and thanked her for it. Mighty nice of her to sent it to me. Wrote notes to Chatkoff and Paul Rockwell. Hedin (a reporter) of "Brooklyn Eagle" out to see us in p.m. Flying late and got 2 fair flights. Very nervous on account of last night. Will quit drink and smoking for good now! It doesn't pay in aviation. ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 197 *********************
