Off to Paris after work in early a.m. Went to service of American Church. Then to dine with Capt and Mrs Parker at Roosevelt Hotel. Confess to the Capt of my desertion from the Navy. He promised to help me clear myself all he possibly can but advises I hold off action until I've finished my service here. Gave me lots of hope for getting squared later on account of my record here. God grant so. Had supper with Miss Mooney in her apartment and enjoyed most pleasant call with her. Came out rather early to Buc. For any of you in the Illinois/Iowa region who may be interested in attending, the location is the Rock Island Arsenal Museum Theater on the 10th of August at 1:00. Rock Island Arsenal is just off of I-74 at the Moline River Drive exit. Let me know if you are interested in attending. I must apologise to the list, as he too says that the machine Chapman is next to is his "cream" colored machine. The thing that clinched it for me (besides coming from Greg ;-)) is that "cream" is a different color than "clear doped linen", hence looking darker on film than c.d.l. However, he did come across something that makes him believe Chapman's machine had "C"'s on it, designating it to be Chapman's machine. To Richard at Blue Rider: which insignias do you want to do? All? Fighters only? Bombers and recce's? He's wondering because he can provide info on most of all. And it should go well with the Brequet that Pegasus is supposedly coming out with (isn't that the next WW1 release from Pegasus?). To Stuart, et.al.: The violet officially came into being Mar/Apr 1917. However, keep in mind that this was a directive to the factories, so in the field machines probably were different. Also keep in mind that not all factories followed official directive. Something he mentioned off the cuff dealt with the 94th insignia. He mentioned that it was *not* handed, and was the same on both sides. Glen: make sure you ask him questions. I realize that you're primarily armor, but the man is a storehouse of knowledge. If there's any WW1 a/c info you want to know, chances are he knows about it. If I still lived in Des Moines, I would be at your meeting. However, coming from Omaha is a lllooonnnggg drive. :-) I wonder if I can get him to come to Omaha to talk...;-) Matt meba@cso.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 09:15:34 -0400 From: u1a00518@wvnvm.wvnet.edu To: wwi, Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: Chapman's plane Message-ID: <199607161315.JAA07145@pease1.sr.unh.edu> On Tue, 16 Jul 1996, MEBA@cso.com wrote: >Talked to Greg again last night. "Kites in the Sky" is this year's theme - MS-Ns, Bristol Scout D, Pups, DH-2s and a Gun Bus go up against a flock of D-I and D-II Albatrosses and a couple of Roland C-IIs. Should be fun. Norwegian pilot Tryggve Gran was shot down in early December 1917 with Shand on his first mission as observer. A5586 was usually Ltn. Martins machine.
