Laf. planes, because I live so far out in the boonies that there is no hobby shop within driving range. And picking out colors by mail-order is like trying to fly blindfolded. I just got Rosemont's list of Polly Scale colors-- does anyone out there have this list, and, if so, can you recommend which colors I should have on hand for WWI aircraft generally, and Esc. Laf. especially? --Bradley Omanson ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jun 96 21:13:02 EDT From: Brian Nicklas To: Subject: Static model engines Message-ID: <199606290111.VAA19097@pease1.sr.unh.edu> I just got an "Engines & Things" resin engine from Aviation Usk. Very nice. I ordered #72067, which is a Mercedes Benz 6 cylinder inline, marked as 160, 180 or 200 hp for WWI German fighters. The detail is very nice, and in some cases better than some cast white metal engines that come with some kits. There is very little to no flash, and just a bit of a seam to remove. Once it get s some paint, it will look preety good. They also have 1/48 scale engines, and although I do not have my Aviation Usk catalog at the moment, the list of available engines filled the page. Besides ordering from Aviation Usk, The address of Engines & Things is: Engines & Things P.O. I too have used Engines and things. I've got a big box full. The mercedes is indeed one of the nicer ones, some are quite rough though. A nice item is the replacement set for the 1/72 Ilya. They also have some other nice WWI engines. The benefit over Aeroclub's white metal engines is that they are easier to clean up, alter, etc.- although a few early releases are really useless and not worth the resin they are cast in (5 cylinder Russian radial comes to mind) For the "other war", tons of goodies are made, latest stuff is really good. Highly recommended. Hope this helps! Scott M. I have some paint chips from Replicraft (obtainable through WW1 Aero) that has almost all French colors matched to Methuen (I say almost all, because they don't have anything to suggest Aluminum Dope) which I will try to match to Polly S/cale. I've already done it for Johnson's Nie.11, but I don't remember what colors they are off the top of my head. When I get home from work, I'll look them up and post them from home. (Yea, working on Saturday really sucks!) I would like to get copies of these, but I have been informed by someone in contact with an owner of these journals that said articles are not in fact in the above-mentioned numbers. Could someone with access to C&C Int. confirm the existence of the Jacobs articles in that journal? Matt, could it be that you were referring to the original C&C USA? Many TIA. I can check and see which issues contain the articles you want. The volume is question is still available from Cross & Cockade as a back issue. They accept payment with credit cards. I'll look up the issues this evening and post them to you later.
