Geez, nerves of steel. Cheers - Jim. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 1996 16:22:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Jesse Thorn To: wwi Subject: Re: Aurora Halberstadt Accuracy? Message-ID: Just about everything regarding the shape of the kit components is wrong. I have been working on this kit for a while now. When compared to the Windsock Datafile you can see that the fuselage shape in profile as well as width are wrong. I made a new rudder and stabilizer from styrene. The wings are basically correct in outline, however, the number and placement of the ribs are wrong. I sanded these off and made new ones from strip. Also, the pronounced washout at the lower wing root has to be added. It would probably be easier to scratchbuild a Halberstadt that to correct this kit! --Jesse ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 1996 21:20:11 PST From: mbittner@juno.com (Matthew E Bittner) To: wwi Subject: Latest Over the Front Message-ID: <19960608.212025.5247.1.mbittner@juno.com> The latest OtF came in the mail today, and there were a few items of "modeler" interest. The first deals with the Russian Front, specifically in regards to bombing and recce. There are some nice pictures of the Ilya. Another modeler interest is Greg VanWyngarden's color article on the Hlaberstadt CL.II. One *not* to be missed. Finally, the regular column "A League Of Modelers" deals with the Hanriot HD.1. This article includes a picture of a beautiful *1/72nd* model, and three color profiles on the outside rear cover (ala Datafiles). Overall the issue is worth it. The saving pieces are the CL.II and HD.1 articles. I'd, of course, be happy to reimburse for copying costs and postage. Message-ID: <199606090518.AA22615@ednet1.orednet.org> Well, John Burns' KCC arrived today with his annual list of scheduled new releases for '96. Nothing in there which is too exciting from the standpoint of WW1 modeling - indeed, it looks kinda down right GRIM. Glencoe has a reissue of the aurora 1/48 'Jenny' scheduled but seeing's how the currently available Lindberg Jenny is infinitely superior to Aurora's in any event, this is no big deal. Better Glencoe had picked the Bristol fighter or the DH-4. (ESPECIALLY the DH-4!) Also listed was a reissue of the SPAD 13 but I think that one's already out. The DML Sopwith Camel is still on the release list so perhaps that will yet appear. Airfix is scheduled to re-issue the 1/600 WW1 BB 'Iron Duke' and Revell (Europe) supposedly has a re-issue of the old Froggie 1/500th WW1 BB "Royal Sovereign" on tap. Now, if someone would just do a "Lutzow" or "Fredrich der Grosse" for them to fight! :-) Pegasus (Blue Max) is set for a 1/48 DH-2 (drool! - but I won't be able to afford it anyway.) and a Pfalz D.XII while the 1/72 line is scheduled for an Albatros D.III (Oef) plus a Breguet 14. Hobbycraft has got yet another reissue of the Ace copy of the Revell 1/28th Fokker Dr.I listed while Revell is listed as having a 1/28 Fokker D.VIII but I'm pretty sure this is a misprint and is a reference to a reissue of the Revell Fokker D.VII in the same scale. And, except for the stuff I've seen mentioned on the list previously as already released and the anticipated Eduard stuff, that seems to be pretty much it. Definitely no indication that Revellogram has any intention of re-issuing any of their 1/72 WW1 stuff which is a pity, really. Still, I suppose there are still enough of those kits floating around at modest prices that the lack of a reissue isn't too big of a deal - yet.
