Somehow I couldn't get through to the list. It was really annoying to read all your interesting mails without being able to respond. I hope it works this time. Here is my top ten list: 1. Nieuport 11 2. FE 8 3. DH2 4. Fe2b 5. Hannover CL II/III 6. Rumpler C.I 7. Aviatik Berg D.I 8. Aviatik Berg C.I 9. BE 2c/e 10. Vickers FB 5 11. ...o dear, can't I go on? I've already posted about this, but for the others: I would look at the Datafile's on the Fokker Dr.I, D.VII, and (possibly) the Pfalz D.III/IIIa, including all current (and future) Special's. Also check out Windsock's Special on JG.I. For the rest, is there anything in the *numerous* MvR books about, including the Windsock one? The Nieuport should be at the top of everyone's list, but isn't THE nieuport the 17c? For me THE Nieuport is the Triplane! But I agree there is a need for the 11 in 1/48..heck in 1/72 too! -Al =============================================================================== Allan Wright Jr. | Rodents of unusual size? Well, I prefer the Nie 11 to the 17c. The smaller horseshoe cowling emphasizes the elegantly curved lines of the fuselage and the whole aircraft looks more balanced (anyway, it's a matter of taste, isn't it:-)). I've just finished the Smer Nie 11 which is a bit off scale (1:50?) and rather simple. But then - what do you expect for DM 5,-, that must be about $ 3 at the moment? I built it out of the box, not using the post war Russian decals, but Americal Gryphon Italian cockades. Not a masterpiece, but it looks like a Nie 11. The Blue Max kit waits on my desk already. I finished a 1/72 Nie 11 last year. A resin kit by Toycraft Berg, not cheap for about $ 35, but the best Nie 11 so far, I would say. I built the mount of de Turenne. There are other Nie 11 kits, but 'only' vacforms. I think Classic Plane (1/72) and Tom's Modelworks (1/48) have got it in their program. A true international aircraft, as it was flown by almost every nation, even Germany and Austria-Hungary. Does anyone know what happened to captured aircraft? How many were only evaluated and test-flown, how many were flown in combat against their former owners? Would be a nice thread to follow. not only for the Nie 11. There are many photos in the WS magazine and the Datafiles, but information is rather sparse. Just wanted a little clarification. Do you want to model Jasta 11 when it was directly commanded by Richthofen? (roughly February-June, 1917) or later, when it was one of four under JG 1? In the first case, we are talking about Albatross D.III, D.V. and Va. The book "Richthofen: Beyond the Legend of the Red Baron" by Peter Kilduff is currently easy to find. It has several photos of his Albatri and and a couple on the squadron at this time, especially Allmenroder's (his successor as Jastafuehrer). I'm not sure about other, easy to find, references at this time, I'm looking for a few, myself. In 1/72, and in 1/48, probably your best bet is to modify. "Scale Models, April, 1981, had an article on Page 168 on the Nieuport 11, with emphasis on modifying the Revell 17 to the 11 (they pulled the engine and cowling from the Airfix Avro 504K kit, but there are other sources). The article includes 1/72 and 1/48 scale drawings with sections and details, and even notes on markings placement for French, British, and Italian N. 11's. For 1/48 it might help with modifying the SMER issue of the old Aurora molding, or maybe doing the same kind of backdating on the Testor's 17. Incidently, Scale Models did a series on Nieuports, over several issues around September,'80 to October, 81. I'm missing a few of the important ones, myself, notably the N. 17 article. They had drawings and model help. I'm not sure who ended up with the drawings, possibly Albatross/Windsock. If need be, I'll make a copy for you.
