BTW how have you experts finished the cowling, with that strange
patterned effect? The ideas I've come up with seem ludicrous to me!

A friend finished his E.III cowl with silver Rub'N'Buf and then drew on the
sworls? swirls? with a pencil. It looked very realistic.

Other point, could anyone point me at a reference to the purple/green
Austrian (Navy?) finish I picked?

There are photos of 1916 era planes in this finish in Heinz J. Nowarra's book
"Balkenkreuz und Eisenkreuz".
