Well, at least up until about 3 or 4 years ago, Humbrol made a "German
Purple" which was kind of a brownish purple-red - quite close to
British PC 12 actually. It was decidedly different than the "lilac"
and "purple" colors you see on many color illustrations but it looked
pretty good on a model and the fact that it was similar to PC 12
gives it some claim to being reasonably close to accurate. My theory
has always been that there were actually *two* distinct "purple"
colors used on WWI German a/c but that's another (very long) story.
