R/C modellers:

>A while back someone mentioned 2" (1/6?) scale electric R/C gathering.

That was me Allan.

>I am very interested in what people are using for electric motors,
# of cells, # of channels, etc. for WWI electric R/C. This would
be great for me as I have no interest in doing GAS powered R/C but
would love to go back to R/C modeling wspecially in 1/6 WWI!

As you can see from the attached list motors and number of cells would vary
greatly depending on size.

>I had one of those semi-indestructable R/C planes a couple of years ago and
enjoyed it except for 2 points. 1) The gas (sic) engines were too damned hard
to start and 2) starting them was dangerous. My interest in Gas powered R/C
stopped suddenly when a prop did the same into the muscle of my left thumb
leaving me with 16 stitches for my troubles. I quickly liquidated all of my R/C
equipment and continued on with my other hobbies.

Tell me about it I have a 3" long scar on the plam of my hand from a 90 four
stroke.

>I would be interested in starting agin in R/C if the electrics are
truely a viable way to go now. Is the power/duration of the flights
acceptable?

I have found that the average flight time of 6 minutes as more than enough.
And power from my Astro Flight 40 geared on 18 cells turns a 14 x 6 prop at
7500 rpm my OS 90 Four stroke turned a 14 X 6 at 9000 rpm.

Tally ho

Thanks for the info in advance,

What follows is a list of WWI 1/6 scale models and what I
would consider good power plant choices. As you can see the
Astro Flight Cobalt Geared 40 would make a good all around
power plant. The 40 will run on battery packs of 18 - 20
cells and Sanyo NCRC 1700 cells take about 25 minutes to
charge and provide durations of between 5 and 10 minutes
depending on airplane weight and the type of flying done.

A good trainer would be the Sig Senoir flown with the 40
and 18 cells.

Of the plans listed only the ones from Aerodrome are
specifically designed for electric operation the others
would require modification.
