Yes I think mine is an 80's issue kit also. That is 10 years ago though!
I don't think $45-50 is unheard of for a used price on these.

Definately not a "basic" kit. A LOT of rigging, wing surfaces are a 2 part
endevor so rigging lines are strung through and then upper surface of
top wing and lower surface of bottom wing are added. Lots of filler needed
to make this work well. Detailing oppertunities are nearly limitless which
makes this a home workbench project.
