I cringed when I saw the 'Prize Question' on the bottom of the
renewal form. Why, you ask? Because they have made the dumkopf
mistake of calling the German markings 'Balkan' crosses. They are
properly called 'Balkenkreuz'. They are nothing to do with the
Balkan region, unlike the Maltese cross and Malta. Rather, the
german word 'Balken' means something like 'straight beam' or
something like that, more of a description of the shape.
