My introduction to the hobby was via the model railroading world. I have
always enjoyed the building of the models more than the "operation" of
the trains, so it was a natural for me to concentrate on more static
modeling projects.

So, most of my completed projects end up on some kind of diorama base
(usually nothing too elaborate). To finish them off, I go to the lumber
mill/store and get some scrap peices of hardwood (oak usually), use my
miter box and build up a pretty nice base. I have tried to create an
acrylic cover for the base, but so far I have been pretty dissapointed
with the results (anyone have any tips?).

If you are willing to put a little time into building the base, I think
the effort is worth it. If you do it yourself, the cost is usually
pretty reasonable (especially considering how much you invested in the
model itself :)

Just my two cents...
