I might add to that the fact that the early H-S suffered from numerous
cooling problems-- both in running too hot, and also in cooling too
violently in a dive. The situation prompted several grille and cowling
modifications in the SPAD VII, ending finally with the louvered front
mounted vertical shutters, as on the XIII.
