Fellow WW1 Modellers

Further to the identity of the engines depicted on the WW1
web page, I rang the Australian War Memorial Museum
shortly after receiving a message from Charles Hart.

Unfortunately, the Curator (John White) was not at his
desk but I was able to speak to an assistant whose
name escapes me at present.

He told me that the two engines on display near to
the Pfalz are Benz BZ4 engines of some 220HP. On this
last point, he was a little uncertain because he did
not have confirming information in front of him.

For those people lucky enough to have a copy of
Janes Fighting Aircraft of World War 1 reprinted from
the 1919 Edition of Janes, have a look at page 269-271.
The engine depicted there is described as a 230HP Benz.
It clearly has a strong resemblance to the engine
depicted on the WW1 Web page.

If you do not have a copy of this book, I strongly
recommend that you seek one out before they
disappear altogether.
