I was looking at photos and plans of Lohner aircraft in the Aircraft of
the A-H Army Air Force and noticed that the trailing edges of the wings
of Lohner aircraft have a peculiar scalloped effect. From the top they look
like this:

|__/____\_|_/____\_| etc.

>From above they look as if their is a depression between each rib along
the trailing edge. From the underside they look flat and straight edged.

How were these constructed and for what reasons?

Thanks,
