But not TOO muted. The samples I have of origianl and NASM and Ver Teknik
reproductions show the dye almost fully saturated the weave.

This is correct.

Looking at some fabrics either Front or Rear side, reveals a whitish
cast to themas there is some surface "fuzzing". Hard to explain
unless you see it.
