This J-1 is fully covered and is hung from the ceiling. These photos were taken at the USAF Museum in Dayton in Sept 2003 by Lance Krieg.

Lance adds:
Note undersurface weep hole in trailing edge of wing and the stitch detail visible beneath the rib tapes. Large vent area is visible behind the olive drab metal panels on fuselage underside. All metal fittings appear to be japanned. Wing walkers have integral handholds. All tapes and patches on the underside are much lighter than the doped linen fabric of the wing surface.
