Albatros D.III (OAW)

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

Here are images of my latest completed model, an Albatros D.III (OAW) in Jasta 49 markings. The kit is the Eduard Profipack version. Markings are from the Aeromaster Albatros collection. Upper lozenge is Pegasus 5 color, as are all rib tapes. Lower lozenge is Aeromaster. Wood grain fuselage is hand painted. Wooden prop is by Martin Digmayer via Copper State Models. Rigging is invisible thread painted Gunmetal. This kit turned out pretty much as hoped, except for some pesky wrinkles in the lozenge.

Richthofen's Albatros D.III

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

Here are photos of the Eduard Albatros DIII kit finished in von Richtofen's markings. This was sort of a "minimalist" effort, basically OOB, no photo etch. It won't win any contests, but the pictures are OK.

Albatros D.V

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

Here are a few shots of my completed Albatros. More pictures and comments are at the Cookup site.

Albatros D.Va (Stropp)

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

Here are 12 images of my model of the NASM Albatros DVa, "Stropp." The kit was built in 1995 using the Eduard 1/48th scale Albatros DV/VA kit. Kit markings are from a special IPMS issue decal sheet given to me by my friend David Brizzard. David now owns and operates Hobbies West in Houston, TX.

Stropp4 image: "Stropp" logo on fuselage
Stropp5 image: Garuda logo on propeller
Stropp6: Note "crossover" of bracing wires from V strut to fuselage
Stropp7: Albatros logo on rudder
Stropp8: Wood grain effect. Hand painted with Testor's Tan over Gunze Radome Tan. "Varnished" with Gunze Afrika Yellow wash, then "Futured."
Stropp10: View from above showing Americals 5 color lozenge decals. Pink rib tapes are from Aeromaster.
Stropp11: Underside view showing SuperScale 5 color lozenge. Aeromaster rib tapes.
Stropp12: "RF" decal on fuselage. This lettering was on the original plane while it was on display in the 1920s. NASM couldn't document its origin so did not include it in restoration. I hate to waste a good decal so I said, "Why not?"

Albatros D.Va

Kit: Wingnut (1:32)

Hans Waldhausen's Albatros DV

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

These are some photos of my model of Hans Waldhausen's Albatros DV. The decals are a combination of kit, Aeromaster and Eagle Strike.

Buchner's Fokker DVII

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

These are some photos of my recent model in 1/48th scale of Franz Buchner's OAW built Fokker DVII. The kit is by Eduard pretty much OOB. Built as a commission for aviation artist Michael O'Neal.

Heinrich Piel's Fokker D.VII

Kit: Revell? (1:48)

Uffz. Heinrich Piel's Fokker DVII of Jasta 13, circa 1918. Fuselage colors are Polly Scale RLM 24 Blue and 25 Green. Aircraft markings are from Aeromaster sheet 48-184. 4 color lozenge is from Americals, rib tapes are Aeromaster. This model was fortunate enough to place second in its category at the recent Birmingham Phantom Plashers club sponsored contest held in Anniston, Alabama on May 27, 2000. I almost didn't enter it in the contest. I guess it's better to be lucky than good.

LVG C.VI

Kit: Blue Max (1:48)

This was a tough one to build but overall I think it was worth it. Full review article will be appearing soon at Modeling Madness.

Max Holtzem's Pfalz D.IIIa

Kit: Eduard (1:48)

Siemens Schuckert D.III
