Albatros C.I

Kit: Scratch (1:48)

It's a 1/48th scale Albatros C.I, scratchbuilt in cardstock and paper. The rigging is invisible thread colored black with a marker and is functional, keeping the 11" of wing from drooping (so far . . . . . ). The propellor is carved from cardstock laminated with CA and polished with a Dremel tool.

1911 Morane-Borel Monoplane

Kit: Scratch (1:48)

This was Jules Vedrines' ride to second place in the 'Round Britain Race. The fuselage framework is made from 1mm wide strips of triple-thick brown cardstock; bracing wires are straightened and blackened strands stripped out of speaker wire. Most of the other rigging is invisible thread. I'm right proud of the uncovered fuse, but the biggest accomplishment on this one is the wheels - my first pair of honest-to-goodness spoked wheels. The hubs, rims and tires are all made of paper and the spokes are monofilament. The method is essentially a simple variation on Woodman's, but it's taken a long time to figure out how to adapt his technique to cardmodeling. Everything else is cardstock and paper in the usual style.

All in all, this is easily my most ambitious and most challenging project to date, and I'm quite satisfied with how it came out.

Nieuport 11

Kit: Scratch (1:48)

Here is my scratchbuilt 1/48th scale Nieuport 11 cardmodel. The rigging is invisible thread, colored black with a marker. Everything else is cardstock and paper - the propellor is made from nine layers of cardstock laminated with CA and carved to shape.
